Just another Friday night in Ashevegas

Posted on September 30th, 2007 by jimdiggitydog • 1 Comment »

Friday night was fun, ya’ll!  Where were ya?  All the hot action was going down at Fred’s Speakeasy with a crazy lineup of Automanic, Luxury Pushers and Crank County Daredevils.  Thanks to my bro being fashionably late as always, I missed most of Automanic’s set.  Luxury Pushers were super cool (hunt ‘em down on myspace) although I really wanted to give their guitarist a blood transfusion and a peanut butter sandwich; I could pick my teeth with that boy…but any band that opens their set with a few lines from “America” by Neil Diamond is ok in my book.
The crowd was happy as hell it was Friday, friendly and mostly drunk.  There was dancing and flailing for Luxury Pushers, which if you know Asheville’s music scene like I do, is insane–seldom will Ashevillians get up and show love to the headlining band, nevermind the opening bands.
The bathroom at Fred’s is haunted.  […]

401 rocket club

The Rocket Club people have been working at it pretty darned steady at opening there across from Image 420 on Haywood Road. This local music venue on the other side of I-240 promises affordable drinks, great music and no attitude. They even gave the building sidewalks (and imbedded their logo into it as seen above). I’ll keep you informed!

Or, keep your eye on their site.

Back Yet Again

Posted on September 28th, 2007 by feedpuller • add your comment »

Oh, gracious. Mother was away for an extended period of time that go ’round, wasn’t she? Mister Tim who supplies the vegetables for our lunch room was just showing me two of his wonderfully large Kiwi fruit and the most delectable cucumber in the cloak room. I’ve never had my hands on such a pair!
Yes, Bobbie, we should get back to our story. Mustn’t forget our place here.
Now, let’s see. We’ve talked all about Harold, the wolf and his place in our story. I suppose now is the time we should just pick up our tale and return to the Pigs Little.
Now, it so happens our little pigs had gone quite a way into the neighboring forest while we were concentrating on Harold the wolf. They had crossed several small streams and frolicked in several pastures before settling on a wide path in the Woodsy Woods. As they journeyed, they […]

The Babysitter

Posted on September 28th, 2007 by feedpuller • add your comment »

As a youth, I was impetuous. I was deviant and a little cocksure. I was too smart to be caught.
Or so I thought.
We’d raise hell and shout and break things and act like we were tough. Listen to music way too loud and do things into all hours of the night.
Looking back, it was all sort of this funny haze of country nights under the stars, coolers full of Coors and a bunch of us acting like idiots. We were punk as hell - but only as punk as you could be in Western North Carolina. Kind of redneck-punk, I guess. We spent just as much time around the cows and cicadas as we did in the Spider’s Web or Chesterfield Mill or Fine Arts.
But, there was always the straight man. The one that kept us out of real trouble. The one that made sure we didn’t wake up […]

I love acupuncture

Posted on September 28th, 2007 by jimdiggitydog • add your comment »

This is a tough one to explain if you’ve never had it done before, but a really good acupuncture session is bliss.
First off, I’ll back up and say I was in a fender bender that left me sore between my shoulder blades, an ache that wasn’t fading away.  Ice and ibuprofen weren’t making a difference.  I thought I’d go back to the acupuncture clinic and see if they could work some magic.
They’ve worked magic for me in the past.  They’ve fixed my sleep problems short term, they alleviated tremendous back pain after two flailing falls.
So you’re on a table, a massage-type table with the cradle for your face.  You might be on your back if the acupuncture needles are going in your front side, but I think all my treatments but one have required I be on my stomach.  After a consultation with your acupuncturist, you assume the position (on […]

I think I need a vacation

Posted on September 28th, 2007 by jimdiggitydog • add your comment »

It has been a really exhausting ride since my birthday, really.  Full of some highs and some lows, some waaaaay down lows, but I’m ready for even keel, some smoother sailing.
I’ve been jerked around a little this month, not intentionally, but still, jerked around while someone was wrapped in some self-absorbed BS.  The only person allowed to be that self-absorbed, folks, is me, so make a note, don’t let it happen again.
I think the hardest part of it all (I hate to be cryptic, but this is a public diary after all, you’re peeking over my shoulder into my thoughts, so I have to be a little guarded) was that my intentions were misunderstood.  And the party involved never took a second to even ask my intentions, just took a question, ran with it, blew it up, emotional shrapnel everywhere.  We’ve talked at length since then to make some peace […]

Somebody has to miss the Kat Box

Posted on September 27th, 2007 by kat • 2 Comments »

Hey, if you’re looking for the most fabulous fixture ever in the FreakinAsheville corner of the woods, the one and only world famous Kat Box that you’ve been reading for a blue million years, you’re going to have to go over here.  You won’t find it on FreakinAsheville at this moment, and there should be a big blinking sign that tells you all how to find me, because that’s why you’re here, for me…  The Kat Box is chock full o’ my usual mood-swingy angst, the same angst you’ve been enjoying for a really long time.  So go here and enjoy!
EDITOR’S NOTE: KAT BOX BUTTON ADDED. HOW ELSE MAY WE SERVE THEE, OH MISTRESS O’WORDS?

Busy People, Weird Brains

freakytales.jpgOur MotherSite (kind of like MotherShip*) is growing by leaps and bounds. Or something.

Somebody (and by somebody, I mean not me) has started a blog at FreakinUniverse.com called “Olde Mother Freaker.” Some very strange meanderings, but why this stuff isn’t published is beyond me.

You may need to have some caffeine (or Nyquil - or both) before you read. Nice. Very nice. Weird. Very weird. Check it out here.

*speaking of mothership, has anyone seen that Tom Cruise is building a 10 million dollar bunker to hide in when Xenu comes back to Earth to zap it with lasers? And sharks with frickin’ laser beams attached to their heads. Katie’s hair is longer than he is tall, and it’s probably a lot smarter than Tom, too. Apparently being as dumb as a bag of hammers, short and bat-shit crazy is the way to huge success as an actor. I’ve got two of the three. And I’m 6′ 3″. I should have smoked more as a baby.

Harold, the Wolf

Posted on September 27th, 2007 by feedpuller • add your comment »

Now. Is everyone settled? Tim? Best get to your seat. Don’t want to see that, you know. Yes, wait ’till the photographs. Are we ready for the next installment? Good. Now, place your heads on your desks and listen. Don’t go to sleep. Mister Willoby will be bopping on your skulls if you do.
Let’s think about our Mister Wolf for a moment. He’s been there, you know, as this story has developed—in the background, waiting as it were. This lone figure who inhabits all children’s tales. His name is Harold and he has somewhat of an interest in what has happened in the fields before his hungry eyes.
Honestly, Harold has been placed in the area of vulture, opportunist, blood-seeking, mindless predator for so long. Actually, Harold is a might timid and not at all the predator he has come to represent. Mostly, he’s just an ordinary wolf who needs a meal. […]

Pig Little Get Going

Posted on September 27th, 2007 by feedpuller • add your comment »

Well, you did come back after Mother spent some time in the lavatory. I did take a while, didn’t I! Ah, the beauty of nature.
So, let us get back to our precious pigs, shall we?
Now, you must understand that Larry, Wyatt and Greg were starting out in the early morning. Adventures usually start at the beginning of a glorious Spring day with all the flowers in bloom and the robins pulling long, succulent worms out of the soft, loamy ground. That’s the way the writers would have you believe. Actually, and I know this from a very reliable source, the boys started out past the gate near the end of a hot, dry August day. I’m only saying it was morning because you want all this to be as easy as possible and for the story to be over rather quickly so you can run along and do what you feel […]

The Three Pigs Little

Posted on September 27th, 2007 by feedpuller • add your comment »

Once upon a marvelous time on a small, quiet farm near Diddlydumb Shire there lived three darling pigs—Larry (the eldest), Wyatt and Greg. They lived in a tight cottage on the edge of a large, green field with their mother, Hilda Little.
As all pigs are when they reach a certain age (and goodness knows, these boys were very much of that age) they became somewhat restless having to live with their mother and so close to each other. Their father (Armbrose Little) had left years ago, after the birth of Larry and so, they had only to ask their mother when it came time, as they saw it, to pick up and move on to their destiny.
Hilda, although sad to see them go, was helpful as she gathered their belongings and escorted them through the door and out into the narrow yard. The whole process (having taken less than twenty minutes), left […]

Hello Out There My Precious Little Ones

Posted on September 26th, 2007 by feedpuller • add your comment »

What a joy to see you gathered around your CRTs and LCDs to join Mother in her first adventure after the passing of Mother’s late husband, Leopold. I shall miss Leopold, but let us not get distracted. We’re here for a great story aren’t we? My yes!
So, please put down your biscuits and put away the tea. Wipe your face and let us begin! We have a lot of telling to tell before we sleep. Mother will now take a small sip from her glass of mystery and … we’re off!
