The River Fest Sculptures will be coming down soon and everyone who hasn’t gotten out to the Amboy dog park (i think officially the French Broad park) there at Amboy and Riverview should soon if they can. This year had some great sculptures and some that moved around and a new addition in the middle - such as the one on the left here. This one’s a new one from Brian Glaze done in aluminum.
There were also some great dance and performance events surrounding the sculptures and Robert Winkler did a wonderful job of coordinating the installation and events surrounding these. Since they’re technically “in a floodplain” the sculptors can only get a permit for several months at a time rather than make anything permanent.
Come see them before they go!

We were able to see it on a perfect September sunny day. It was on a Sunday at noon and I was really amazed how many people were there enjoying, contemplating, meditating and discussing pieces and of course playing critics. I love that kind of discourse but what drives me crazy is when someone says “that’s not art”. How does one know or what gives one the right to decide what is or is not ART?
very, very cool. i can’t recommend it enough. the kids had a ball and the sculpture is really quite nice!
oh, and wolf - art is in the eye of the artist. people can complain and bitch and moan, but if the person creating it dubs it art, it’s art.
and art can be anything - and it is anything. if one person calls it art, it’s art.
thank you for clearing up this age old debate !! and i totally agree. art is in everything if you really want to get down to it.i have made paintings which people just don’t “get” and I say”you don’t have to get it i did not create it for you to”get”. so there. feisty day !!!
wish they could leave up the exhibit all the time !!!
did you smell poop? go an a day tha’s not so windy.
