Two for no.

There are days that I feel like I’m wandering around in a coma.

There are even more days when I realize that the majority of the people in this world are absolutely brain dead. Lobotomized and happy, cramming down the fat burgers and ignoring the end of the world as we know it.

Going through the motions as we cartwheel toward the grave. Bored and indifferent. The people that get angry soon lose the fire it takes to care when they see that they’re talking to brick walls and worse. We’ve all fallen into this WalMart mentality - cheap, fast and who gives a damn what it costs others as long as we get it served up with a side of fries made from GMO potatoes. We’re becoming a world of Dollar Menunaires. McAmerica.

We’ve got bad guys flooding through our borders and placing themselves in position to wipe us out - but gas is still (barely) below 3 bucks a gallon, so we’re golden. We’ve got leaders selling us down the river for power. People killing children. Bandsmen blown up by remote control. And the biggest news? Britney’s latest album has dropped and she’s showing her ass on MTV - but only between shows about being cute and sexy and sassy and promiscuous.

And we laugh and carry our sacks of money to the bank. We buy worthless homes for millions of dollars. We shove each other aside to get copies of Halo 3. We scream and yell - at the television when our latest QB gets sacked.

We ignore our kids and let them grow up under someone else’s tutelage. SpongeBob or the perverted Scout master.

We ignore the world until it is in our living room, holding a gun to our head.

We’re feeding off of each other. Mad cow? Mad people.

We’re all marching into the worldly meat grinder to be made into the burgers of tomorrow…

In the words of Neil from the Young Ones: “Listen! This company’s been doing some pretty heavy things over the years, right. And it’s gotta start getting beautiful or this planet’s heading for oblivion!”

So - I’m hell-bent on doing something beautiful. Even if it’s just blogging and making jokes and doodling stupid pictures - I’m doing my part to end the negative. I encourage all the Freaks to pitch in.

We’ve dropped the ball so deftly handed off to us by the “Greatest Generation,” and I pray that we have the foresight and intestinal fortitude to pick it back up and run with it and hand it off to our kids in better shape than when we received it.

They deserve a break today…

Some of you know I’ve been taking pills to keep my other, darker Jimdiggitydog from coming out. Not fun pills - pills that keep the crazy away.

I stopped taking them on Thursday, and I’ve discovered 3 things:

1. I don’t need to stop taking them.
2. The world is messed up.
3. I’m taking pills because the world is messed up and I can’t handle it any more.

People raping toddlers, people burning down construction sites in West Asheville. People stealing and killing and lying and hating. Millions of people are perishing from hunger, war and greed. People are getting rich off the sweat and blood of the less fortunate. Our rights are being trampled - and taken away. We’re destroying the land and ruining our bodies and souls. So many people take and take and take, and so few are giving back in any way shape or form.

It hurts.

I don’t want to get into what Johnny Rotten called “hippy love shit,” but we’ve got to wake up and be better. We’ve got to care. We’ve got to be real and right and do something good. We’ve got to make this world a better place so my 2 year old LoolieBear can walk around with bare feet and smile and laugh and pick flowers until she’s very old.

I’m angry and sad. Hopeful and hopeless. I don’t really know where I’m going with this - but I know that what I see is not right, and it’s not good and it seems to be getting worse.

Can’t we all do something real and right and good? Let’s change our course.

I want it to change - we want it to change - and we know that FreakinAsheville and FreakinUniverse and all us weirdos can make a difference. We’re setting these sites up as a way to have fun, but also as a way to give back and build up. We’ve got a lot in store, and we’re going to use it all as a way to change the world - 1 silly blog at a time.

I’m washing my pills down with a sugar-free Red Bull. I’m rolling up my sleeves and putting my head down and charging into cyberspace - and I’m going to change my little corner of the world.
