They opened up the Rocket Club last night and Helen and i and the neighbors had a great time (no music yet). For a few more grainy shots like this one, go to my flickr account here. It’s right across the street from the new beer/eatery, The Admiral on Haywood Road, East WestAsheville, the new hoppin’ place!

The River Fest Sculptures will be coming down soon and everyone who hasn’t gotten out to the Amboy dog park (i think officially the French Broad park) there at Amboy and Riverview should soon if they can. This year had some great sculptures and some that moved around and a new addition in the middle - such as the one on the left here. This one’s a new one from Brian Glaze done in aluminum.
There were also some great dance and performance events surrounding the sculptures and Robert Winkler did a wonderful job of coordinating the installation and events surrounding these. Since they’re technically “in a floodplain” the sculptors can only get a permit for several months at a time rather than make anything permanent.
Come see them before they go!

Well, word on the street is that “The Admiral” will open by the new year and that they’re nice people. It’s the new place on Haywood Rd near image420. It’s a dinky little place, but the forgotten side of West Asheville needs someplace where Lane could get a hearty breakfast.
I just wonder if they’re gonna have seafood.

The provided Imbed code from AshVid doesn’t work on this site for some reason, so here’s the link instead.

Last week up on the Blue Ridge Parkway Helen and i saw a huge number of motorcycles at the Pisgah Inn. Apparently, it was a ride for Breast Cancer Awareness, which is not only a wonderful cause but something that bikers can get behind, i’m sure. Heh. That’s why each bike had a pink ribbon.
Anyway, this woman’s T-shirt said “Feel your boobs” and the man next to her was trying his best (while laughing).

The colors are starting to change, and most probably with all this dry and cold will go pretty quickly, so get out on the parkway, out to a friends in the country or take a hike! This shot was taken from the Blue Ridge Parkway going west just before the Graveyard Fields Multiplex.

Just a reminder about the election Tuesday, not necessarily to vote for Lindsey (though i am going to). This was just a sign down the road from me and i’m always attracted to the hand-made and distinct and personal style that Asheville helps to foster.
Another reminder is that you don’t have to wait until tuesday because early voting is very convenient (until we get online voting) and it works well as Helen and i did this last time. So head down to the Board of Elections near the courthouse.
You can even register and vote at the same time if needs be, so don’t gimme no grief about it’s too much of a pain. And don’t even get me started on the lame excuse that it doesn’t matter. Neither does your hollow opinion if you don’t vote and use actions to back up your words, my friend.

The Rocket Club people have been working at it pretty darned steady at opening there across from Image 420 on Haywood Road. This local music venue on the other side of I-240 promises affordable drinks, great music and no attitude. They even gave the building sidewalks (and imbedded their logo into it as seen above). I’ll keep you informed!
Or, keep your eye on their site.
